This article highlights the critical role of eye health in
overall well-being and the adverse effects of poor eye
care, including the development of various eye conditions.
It emphasizes the impact of oxidative stress on
eye tissues, primarily caused by external factors such
as UV light, leading to diseases like dry-eye, cataracts,
age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Several
nutrients, such as antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids,
vitamins, and minerals, are important in maintaining eye
health, particularly in conditions like dry eye syndrome
and macular degeneration. Integration of these molecules
could be a possible solution for these diseases, like
the potential benefits of Mediterranean diets and dietary
supplements in preventing eye disorders.
